Lasso MD vs Wonderist Agency: An Honest Comparison of Two Full-Stack Dental Marketing Operators

I get this question more than any other competitor comparison in dental marketing. "Should I go with Wonderist or Lasso?"

Both companies look similar on the surface. Both are full-service. Both push PMS integration and closed-loop attribution. Both want to be the only marketing partner you need. That's not an accident. The category is converging on what works, and Wonderist and Lasso MD landed in roughly the same neighborhood.

So what's actually different? More than you'd guess from a 10-minute sales call. I co-founded Lasso MD, so the second half of this post is going to be opinion. Everything before that section is the most honest side-by-side I can write about two real, well-run agencies operating in the same lane.

I should also say up front: I know Michael and Laura, the co-founders of Wonderist, personally. They're great people. They built a great company. That doesn't change what I'd recommend to a given practice owner, but it does mean this post is written about people I respect, not strangers.

If you're shopping both, here's what I'd want you to know before you sign.

TL;DR

Wonderist Agency is a full-service dental marketing agency with a clear story-driven brand foundation, PMS-connected ROI tracking, their own CRM with SMS and email automation, and a multi-practice-type focus (startups, established, acquisition, multi-location). They've been at it long enough to be one of the recognized names in dental marketing, especially on the West Coast.

Lasso MD is also a full-service dental marketing operator. About 500 practices, dental-only, integrated stack across website, SEO, paid ads, photography, video, and ROI software. The biggest difference from Wonderist is positioning around AI search visibility as a core service track, and tiered packages that start at $750/mo with DSO pricing available.

Both companies are credible choices. The decision usually comes down to fit on three axes: which CRM and ROI tooling you want to run on, how much weight you put on AI search visibility, and which team feels right after a discovery call.

Where Wonderist wins

Brand recognition in dental marketing. Wonderist has been a recognized name in dental for years, especially among practices doing premium branding work. If you ask 20 dentists at a conference to name dental marketing agencies they've heard of, Wonderist is usually in the list.

Wonderist CRM and lead capture automation. Their CRM is a real product, with SMS and email follow-up funnels for inbound leads. If your front desk struggles to follow up on web leads quickly enough, that lead-capture-to-nurture automation is genuinely valuable. Not every dental marketing agency has built this.

Story-driven branding depth. Wonderist's brand foundation work (logo, brand guide, naming) is deeply integrated into their process. If your practice needs a top-to-bottom rebrand alongside the marketing build, Wonderist is set up for that as a single project, not separate engagements.

Established case study library. They publish detailed case studies with named results: implant case revenue figures, page 1 keyword rankings, conversion rates from paid ads. Their proof points are concrete and verifiable.

Where Lasso MD wins

AI search visibility as a core service. The biggest single difference. Patients are increasingly finding dentists through ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, and Google's new AI Mode. Lasso has built AI search visibility (sometimes called AEO or GEO) into the core service offering, not as a side trend. If you're a practice owner reading about AI search changes in the dental press and wondering whether your agency is on top of it, that's the Lasso fit.

Pricing transparency. Lasso publishes the starting price publicly. Tiered packages start at $750/mo, with DSO pricing and custom quotes available. Wonderist requires a pricing request. Neither approach is wrong, but transparency is rare in this category and worth noting.

Integrated ROI software. Lasso's ROI software is included in the standard package, not a separate tool you pay extra for. Every practice sees channel-level attribution from ad spend through booked appointment in one dashboard. Wonderist has PMS integration and attribution as well, so this is a tooling preference more than a capability gap.

Tiered package structure. Lasso publishes tiered packages, which means a small startup practice can begin at the $750/mo entry point and grow into higher tiers as production scales. The structure is built for practices at different stages.

DSO-specific pricing and structure. Lasso has explicit DSO pricing and a multi-location playbook. Wonderist serves multi-location practices, but Lasso's DSO model is more formalized.

Smaller account count. Lasso is around 500 practices. That means more direct contact with senior team members, faster turnarounds on requests, and less of the "your account manager just changed again" friction. This is a preference, not a universal good. Some practices prefer a larger, more systematized agency.

Pricing reality check

Wonderist doesn't publish pricing. Most practices report that the all-in monthly is in the range you'd expect for a full-service dental marketing agency, plus media spend on top. The exact number depends on services included, your starting position, and customization level.

Lasso MD's pricing is tiered packages starting at $750/mo, with DSO pricing and custom quotes available. Ad spend is separate (standard practice across the industry, and agencies should always break out ad management fees from media spend).

Both companies are real-money commitments. If you're shopping on price alone you're probably picking the wrong vendor either way. The question is whether the integrated stack and tooling justify the spend versus a piecemeal vendor approach.

Who should choose Wonderist

Pick Wonderist if:

  • You're doing a top-to-bottom rebrand and want logo, brand guide, story foundation, and marketing execution from one team
  • You want a vendor's CRM and lead-capture automation as part of the package
  • You prefer a more established brand name in dental marketing
  • You're a startup practice that needs the full launch playbook (brand, website, photo, video, SEO, ads) in one engagement
  • You're satisfied with traditional SEO depth and aren't yet shifting strategy toward AI search

Who should choose Lasso MD

Pick Lasso MD if:

  • You're building around AI search visibility as a core part of your patient acquisition strategy
  • You want transparent, published starting pricing
  • You're running a DSO or multi-location practice and want explicit DSO pricing and a multi-location playbook
  • You want ROI software with channel-level attribution included, not as a separate add-on
  • You'd rather work with a smaller team where senior people are still close to your account
  • You value pricing transparency and tiered structure that scales with you

My take

I'm biased. I co-founded Lasso MD. Take this section as opinion, not analysis.

Wonderist is one of the more credible dental marketing agencies you'll find. The category has a lot of bad actors, and Wonderist isn't one of them. Michael and Laura have built something real. If you sign with Wonderist, you're working with one of the better full-stack operators in dental marketing, run by people I personally respect.

So why did I leave to build Lasso? Two reasons. First, I wanted dental search marketing built natively around AI search visibility, not bolted on as an add-on track. The way patients find dentists is changing faster than any single shift since Google Maps launched. I wanted a company where AI search was the architecture, not a recent slide deck.

Second, I wanted transparent pricing. The dental marketing category is notorious for opaque proposals where two practices doing identical work pay wildly different prices based on how aggressive the sales rep was. I think tiered, published, scaled pricing is healthier for the industry, and we built Lasso around that.

If your practice priority is brand foundation work and you want a vendor with deep history in dental, Wonderist is a defensible choice. If your priority is AI search visibility, transparent tiered pricing, and DSO-specific scale, Lasso is going to be the more aligned partner. Both options will deliver new patients. The question is which architecture you want underneath the work.

FAQ

Are Wonderist Agency and Lasso MD direct competitors?

Yes. Both are full-service dental marketing operators with PMS integration, ROI tracking, websites, SEO, paid ads, photography, and video. The biggest differences are in AI search positioning, pricing transparency, and CRM tooling.

Does Wonderist have an in-house CRM?

Yes. Wonderist CRM is a proprietary tool with SMS and email follow-up automation for inbound leads. Lasso MD does not currently offer a proprietary CRM; instead, it integrates with practice management systems for ROI tracking and attribution. If CRM functionality is a primary need, that's a real differentiator.

Which is better for DSO and multi-location practices?

Both serve multi-location practices. Lasso MD has explicit DSO pricing and a documented multi-location playbook. Wonderist serves multi-location practices and acquisition practices as named service tracks. The right answer depends on how many locations you have, your growth plan, and which agency's process fits your operational style.

Can I see Wonderist or Lasso MD pricing before a sales call?

Lasso MD publishes starting tier pricing at $750/mo with DSO and custom quotes available. Wonderist requires a pricing request through a discovery call. Both companies will provide detailed quotes once they understand your practice size, current marketing position, and goals.
